About Busek

The future is electric. We’re making it happen.

Busek was founded in 1985 by Dr. Vlad Hruby. Busek has conducted decades of research on Hall thrusters and plasma physics since its inception, and built the first U.S. Hall thruster to fly in space. With far more test data, design experience, and proven hardware than anyone in the industry, Busek leads the field in electric propulsion.

Busek Co. Inc. is engaged in applied research, hardware development and specialty manufacturing in space propulsion emphasizing electric propulsion, power electronics and material science. We are a leading source for advanced electric propulsion thrusters for use on military, government, and commercial satellites.

Some of our key accomplishments include:
The first US Hall thruster in space
• The first microPPT thrusters
The first flight-proven electrospray thrusters
• The first propellant-less Carbon Nano-tube Field Emission Cathode Neutralizer
• The world’s lowest noise thrust stand (noise level below 0.1µN/rt-Hz in the 1mHz-100mHz bandwidth)

Our facilities are located in Natick, MA approximately 15 miles west of Boston. Busek has over 33,000 square feet of engineering, laboratory, product assembly, and testing facility space. Our two locations are specifically designed and fully equipped for the development, testing, and assembly of sophisticated space hardware and subsystems.

Since the beginning, Busek has provided a wide range of thrusters, electronics, space systems, research and complete mission and system engineering support for customers including the major aerospace primes, NASA and the US Air Force. Busek flight heritage includes products developed for AFRL TacSat-2, USAFA FalconSat-3, FalconSat-5, and NASA/ESA Lisa Pathfinder. In the late nineties, Busek licensed its Hall thruster technology to Aerojet Corp. that produced the BPT-4000 Hall thruster now flying on the Advanced EHF series of satellites. Busek’s upcoming missions include providing four BHT-6000 thrusters for NASA’s Artemis mission to the Moon onboard the Power and Propulsion Element of the Lunar Gateway.

Busek is AS9100 and ISO 9001 certified. We provide products for the most demanding defense and commercial applications, and we’re proud to say that our products are exclusively manufactured and assembled in the USA.
